Francisco Marto

Francisco Marto (1908–1919) was one of the three child witnesses of the Fatima apparitions in Portugal in 1917. Together with his sister Jacinta and cousin Lucia dos Santos, he reported seeing a luminous figure during six encounters between May and October 1917. Unlike the girls, Francisco could see but not hear the entity. He died at age 10 during the 1918 influenza pandemic.

The Fatima apparitions have been associated with UAP/UFO phenomena due to descriptions of luminous figures and the witnessed events. The six encounters between May and October 1917 culminated in the Miracle of the Sun on October 13, 1917, which was witnessed by tens of thousands. Francisco's testimony contributed to the recognition of the Fatima events, and he was canonized by the Catholic Church in 2017, the centennial of the apparitions.
