George Van Tassel
George Wellington Van Tassel (1910-1978) was an American ufologist, author, inventor, and self-ordained minister known for his extraterrestrial contact claims and UFO advocacy. Born in Ohio on March 12, 1910, he dropped out of high school but pursued aviation, working as a flight inspector for Hughes and Lockheed aircraft companies before settling at Giant Rock in California's Mojave Desert in 1947 with his wife Eva and three daughters. On August 24, 1953, Van Tassel claimed Venusian extraterrestrials, led by Solganda, contacted him telepathically, providing plans for the Integratron—a 38-foot wooden dome designed for rejuvenation, anti-gravity, and time travel, inspired by Nikola Tesla and Moses’ Tabernacle. He hosted massive UFO conventions at Giant Rock starting in 1954, drawing up to 11,000 attendees by 1959, funding the unfinished Integratron project. Van Tassel authored books, delivered sermons blending Bible teachings with alien wisdom through his Ministry of Universal Wisdom, and appeared on TV and at universities amid 1960s-70s UFO interest. He died of a heart attack in 1978.
