James Mattis
James Mattis, born September 8, 1950, is an American retired four-star Marine Corps general who served as U.S. Secretary of Defense from 2017 to 2019 under President Trump. In UAP/UFO context, Mattis oversaw the Pentagon during the tenure of Luis Elizondo, director of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), a secretive program investigating unidentified aerial phenomena reported by military pilots. Elizondo, who attended Mattis's intelligence briefings and earned his implicit trust, resigned in October 2017 via a letter directly to Mattis, protesting insufficient seriousness toward AATIP's findings on advanced, unexplained aircraft near nuclear sites and restricted airspace. Mattis received briefings on UAP incidents but declined comment on intelligence matters. No known publications or testimony by Mattis on UAP exist.
