Newell Wright
Newell Wright Jr. (born c. 1938) was a Texas Tech University freshman who became a notable witness in the Levelland UFO case of November 2-3, 1957. On November 3, 1957, at approximately 12:05 AM, Wright was driving approximately 10 miles east of Levelland, Texas when his vehicle experienced electrical malfunctions including engine sputtering, ammeter fluctuations, and headlight dimming. Wright reported observing a 100-foot-long egg-shaped object in the roadway; upon the object's departure, his vehicle's engine resumed normal operation. His testimony was among 15 UFO-related reports received by Levelland police that night and was subsequently investigated by U.S. Air Force officials, who attributed the incidents to atmospheric electrical phenomena such as ball lightning or St. Elmo's fire.
