Olavo Fontes
Olavo Teixeira Fontes (1924 – May 9, 1968) was a Brazilian physician and ufologist who became one of the most important early UFO researchers in South America. A gastroenterologist practicing in Rio de Janeiro, he was among the first to scientifically analyze alleged UFO physical evidence. He died at age 44 from cancer.
Fontes served as an APRO (Aerial Phenomena Research Organization) representative in Brazil and investigated numerous cases involving physiological effects on witnesses. He also investigated the 1957 Ubatuba incident, collecting metallic fragments from an exploded disc-shaped object and arranging laboratory analysis with the Brazilian National Museum. He analyzed magnesium samples, and his work laid the groundwork for decades of research into the fragments' anomalous isotopic ratios.
