San Diego: Navy pilot tracks fast UFO on radar
A Navy S2F-1 Tracker aircraft from NAS North Island was directed to a bright light over Point Loma, tracking it on radar at speeds up to 3,500 mph. Project Blue Book dismissed it as Arcturus or a balloon despite directional mismatch.

Am 14. Oktober 1957 um 19:00 Uhr wies der Kontrollturm der Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, Kalifornien, ein U-Boot-Jagdflugzeug S2F-1 Tracker an, ein helles Objekt über Point Loma zu untersuchen. Der Pilot Lt. Allen L. Ries verfolgte das Ziel.
Beobachtungen
Das Flugzeug fixierte das Objekt auf dem Bordreder zuweilen mit plötzlichen Beschleunigungen auf 1.700 mph im Schnitt (3.500 mph Höchstgeschwindigkeit) und 1.100 mph relativ zum Flugzeug (2.200 mph Spitze). Radar zeigte es etwa 12 Meilen voraus. Nach 3 Minuten verschwand es sichtbar und radarbedingt.
Erklärungsversuche
