Background

Zeugen und Beobachtung Alex Donald Chisholm, a 30-year-old business machine mechanic, was at his home on Cunningham Avenue in Warren, Michigan, around 7:05-7:10 p.m. on August 18, 1958. He noticed the object while seeing four military planes fly by. Walter Moilanion, his neighbor, and possibly Moilanion's young daughter also viewed it.

Beschreibung des Objekts Through 8x30 field glasses, Chisholm described it as a gray, Saturn-shaped form resembling a fried egg, brighter than Venus or the Moon at 70-75 degrees elevation, azimuth 300 degrees. It appeared about 60 feet long, stationary for 5-8 minutes, then flipped to show an elongated ring before vanishing after slight movement. Radar from the 725th AC&W Squadron tracked a target for 6 minutes.

Kontext und Erklärung The sighting occurred amid military aircraft activity, classified as BBU 5999. Sources suggest it was probably a Skyhook balloon launched from the University of Minnesota on August 17.
