Doty AFOSI Report on Manzano/Coyote Canyon Incidents Leaked
Richard Doty's AFOSI report documenting the August 1980 Manzano/Coyote Canyon UFO landings is leaked to Bill Moore in January 1982. Later obtained independently via FOIA by Robert Todd and Barry Greenwood. Bruce Maccabee investigates and meets Russ Curtis, a Sandia guard who denies the events. Air Force never disputes the document's authenticity.
Background
Doty's AFOSI report documenting the August 1980 Manzano/Coyote Canyon UFO landings was leaked to Bill Moore in January 1982. The report detailed the alleged experiences of Myrna Hansen, a witness who claimed abduction and interaction with extraterrestrial beings. This leak further fueled Paul Bennewitz's interest in UFOs and underground bases.
The Incident
In August 1980, Myrna Hansen allegedly witnessed UFOs and experienced an abduction. She claimed to have been taken to an underground base, where she saw human body parts in vats. Hansen also reported that a device was implanted in her body to monitor and control her thoughts.
Hansen's son corroborated the UFO sighting and the panic of the cows. Years later, the wife of a Cimarron police officer also corroborated the UFOs, bellowing cattle, and something horrible happening to one of the animals. This officer confided the event to Valdez seven years later.
Investigation
Air Force Special Agent Richard Doty stated that Hansen, while under hypnosis with an Air Force psychologist, described and drew one of the facilities at Manzano in detail. She even knew what the elevator looked like. Bruce Maccabee investigated and met Russ Curtis, a Sandia guard who denied the events. The report was later obtained independently via FOIA by Robert Todd and Barry Greenwood.
Significance
The leaked Doty report deepened Paul Bennewitz's interest in UFOs over the Manzano facility, which was visible from his home. It also fueled his growing conviction that there was an underground alien base in Dulce, New Mexico. The report's details, including Hansen's description of an underground base, were significant because underground bases were not a topic of public discussion in 1980. Kirtland Air Force Base, specifically the Manzano Weapons Storage Area, is known to have extensive underground facilities. The Manzano facility was believed to have been the largest nuclear weapons storage site in the world.
