MJ-12 Documents Mailed to Shandera and Moore
An undeveloped roll of 35mm film arrives anonymously in Jamie Shandera's mailbox in North Hollywood, postmarked Albuquerque. When developed, it contains photographs of an alleged 1952 briefing document from DCI Roscoe Hillenkoetter to President-elect Eisenhower about 'Operation Majestic 12' — a secret committee managing the UFO problem. Lists 12 members including Vannevar Bush, James Forrestal, and others. Also contains a purported memo from Truman to Forrestal authorizing the group. Moore and Shandera sit on the documents for over two years before going public. The authenticity debate over MJ-12 documents will dominate UFO research for decades.
[Dolan Vol.2 enrichment]: Dolan provides extensive detail on the MJ-12 documents: a manila envelope with Albuquerque postmark dated December 8 arrives at the home of TV producer Jaime Shandera in Burbank, California on December 11, 1984. Inside are two more envelopes and a roll of undeveloped 35mm film. When developed, seven pages appear: a cover sheet stamped 'Top Secret/Majic Eyes Only' entitled 'Briefing Document: Operation Majestic 12 Prepared for President-Elect Dwight Eisenhower' dated November 18, 1952. The document lists 12 original members including the 'shocker' of debunker Dr. Donald Menzel. It describes the Roswell recovery and a second crash on December 6, 1950 at El Indio-Guerrero on the Texas-Mexico border. Dolan notes the envelope was postmarked from Albuquerque — where Richard Doty worked. The documents, whether authentic or disinformation, were 'not cheap or simple' and did 'immense damage to document research' according to Barry Greenwood.

A number of the mutilation cases were accompanied by reports of
UFOs, strange helicopters, possible landing traces, and burned tree tops. A
researcher named Tom Adams was the first to track not only the cases of
mutilation, but also the mystery helicopter phenomenon. During the spring
and summer of 1975, he recorded more than 200 cases of helicopters near
or at mutilation sites. Not simply helicopters, however. Some individuals
claimed to see stranger objects, in other words UFOs, near mutilation sites.

The event that seems to have “kicked off” the new wave of mutilations
occurred in December 1974, when a heifer was found inside a perfect circle
of melted snow in Kimball, Minnesota. The animal’s eyes, left ear, tongue,
and part of its lip were removed. No footprints, tracks, or blood were found.
Matters became really strange when a pilot and photographer flew over the
area. A quarter mile south of the mutilation site, they saw dozens of circles
in random patterns spread over several acres. The St. Paul, Minnesota
Dispatch featured one of the photographs in an article, “UFOs Zapping
Cows?” cxxv
From January to May 1975, eastern Texas generated many reports of
“mutes,” helicopters, and UFOs. Most of these cases occurred in a corridor
about 50 miles wide and 200 miles long, running between Dallas and
Austin and pointing northeast toward Arkansas. cxxvi A particularly
interesting incident, recalling the Kimball case, came from Cochran County
on March 10. There, a mutilated heifer was found in the center of a
perfectly round circle 30 feet in diameter. Its head was twisted straight up in
the air, the bottom of its jaw was cut back, the tongue was gone, sex organs
were cut off and missing, and the naval was cut out in a circle. The animal
was drained of blood and its meat was untouched. Stranger still, a mutilated
