Norio Hayakawa Films Test Flight from Groom Lake, February 21
On February 21, 1990, television journalist Norio Hayakawa takes a crew to observe a test flight of an object from Groom Lake (Area 51). Shortly after sundown, the group sees an orange-yellow light appear above the hills. A second sighting occurs later that evening when an object goes to the right, descends, performs a back turn, and executes a 5,000-foot sudden descent 'more or less instantly.' Hayakawa states: 'I have never seen anything like that in my life, ever. It is definitely a test flight of a highly unusual object.' A week later, on February 28, Gary Schultz and his wife Pearl visit the famous 'Mailbox' at the 29.5 mile marker on the road closest to Area 51. At 7:30 PM the first of six craft emerges, one arriving every 45 minutes. Schultz photographs 'amazing bright, pulsing, ellipsoid objects,' one clearly captured as bell-shaped.
