House Intelligence Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee
The House Intelligence Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee is a U.S. government subcommittee under the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, established prior to 2022. It held the first public congressional hearing on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs)/UFOs in over 50 years on May 17, 2022, featuring testimony from military and intelligence officials on UAP reports, national security risks, flight safety, and the need for transparency. Chaired by Rep. André Carson, the hearing addressed stigma in reporting, the ODNI's 2021 report on 144 incidents, and requirements from the 2022 NDAA for a permanent UAP office like AARO. Key activities include oversight of UAP investigations, pushing for declassification, and ensuring intelligence community accountability. Notable achievement: Breaking decades of secrecy on UAPs. It remains active in national security oversight, including UAP-related matters amid ongoing congressional scrutiny.
