MJ-12

MJ-12 (Majestic 12, also Majic 12 or MAJIC-12) is the alleged name of a secret committee said to have been established by President Harry Truman in 1947 to manage recovered extraterrestrial technology and related classified programmes. The existence of MJ-12 is not officially acknowledged by the US government, and the authenticity of the foundational 'MJ-12 documents' — released in 1984 by UFO researchers Jaime Shandera, Bill Moore, and Stanton Friedman — remains disputed among researchers.

The MJ-12 Documents

The 1984 documents purport to show that MJ-12 comprised twelve senior scientists, military officers, and intelligence officials — including Dr. Vannevar Bush, Dr. Lloyd Berkner, Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter, General Nathan Twining, and others — tasked with managing UFO-related intelligence following the Roswell incident. The documents have been extensively analysed for authenticity, with FBI, Air Force, and independent researchers divided over whether they are genuine, fabricated, or part of a Cold War disinformation operation.

Significance

MJ-12 is the most enduring narrative of an organised US secret UAP governance structure. Contemporary whistleblowers — notably David Grusch in 2023 congressional testimony — have alleged the existence of a modern 'Special Access Program' legacy UAP structure, which some researchers link conceptually to MJ-12. The topic remains a flashpoint between disclosure advocates, sceptics, and official denials.
