Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI), founded in 1976, is a U.S. government standing committee of the Senate tasked with oversight of the intelligence community. In UAP/UFO research, it has driven key initiatives, including unanimous passage of the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY2022, mandating expanded data collection on unidentified aerial phenomena by the DoD's UAP Task Force and quarterly congressional reports. SSCI leaders like Chairman Mark Warner (D-VA) advanced these provisions for national security. It supported bipartisan efforts such as the Schumer-Rounds amendment for declassifying UAP records, modeled on the JFK Act. Notable achievements include fostering transparency amid over 100 confirmed UAP reports with unusual characteristics. Currently active, SSCI continues monitoring UAP programs like AARO.
