Spanish Air Force
The Spanish Air and Space Force (Ejército del Aire y del Espacio) is the aerial warfare branch of the Spanish Armed Forces. With a history dating to 1913 and its current structure established in 1939, it operates F-18 Hornets, Eurofighter Typhoons, and other aircraft from bases including Torrejón, Zaragoza, and Albacete.
UAP Investigation Role
Spain was one of the earliest European nations to declassify military UAP files. Between 1992 and 1999, the Spanish Ministry of Defence released 1,900 pages of UFO records covering 80 cases from 1962-1995, making Spain's declassification one of the most comprehensive in Europe. General Alfredo Chamorro and later General Eduardo Rojas led the declassification effort.
Notable Cases
Documented Spanish Air Force UAP encounters include the Tenerife Super Caravelle near-collision with Mirage interceptor scrambling, the Las Bardenas Reales firing-range dome-shaped-object sighting, the Burgos encounter with ground traces, and General Felix Cavero's public acknowledgement of UFO incidents and international cooperation. The Spanish Air Force coordinates UAP reporting with European partners and provides radar data to civil authorities when relevant.
