The U.S. Air Force Office of Public Affairs (OPA), established in 1947, is a U.S. government entity responsible for managing media relations, public information, and official communications for the Air Force. In UAP/UFO contexts, OPA issued key statements on Project Blue Book (1952-1969), which investigated 12,618 sightings, concluding no national security threats, no advanced technology beyond known science, and no extraterrestrial evidence; 701 cases remained unidentified. OPA announced Blue Book's termination in 1969 by Secretary Robert Seamans, rescinding UFO investigation regulations and transferring records to the National Archives. It denied Roswell UFO claims, attributing them to a classified balloon project. Post-1969, OPA maintains no resumption of Air Force UFO probes, handling any reports via standard procedures. Currently active, OPA supports transparency on historical UAP programs without endorsing alien theories.
