The U.S. Air Force Air Materiel Command (AMC) is a major command established on July 1, 1992, headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. It traces its heritage to 1917 at McCook Field in Dayton, Ohio. AMC is responsible for research, development, test, acquisition, and sustainment of virtually every major Air Force weapon system. The command employs approximately 89,000 people and manages $60 billion in annual budget authority. It was created by integrating the missions of the former Air Force Systems Command and Air Force Logistics Command, consolidating functions previously divided during World War II.
