The Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), a United States Department of Defense (DoD) Field Activity, was established on October 1, 1977, to deliver administrative and management support to DoD components, military departments, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Staff, and other entities in the National Capital Region and beyond. As a government organization, WHS employs nearly 6,000 civilian, military, and contract personnel across more than 80 facilities, providing essential services including facilities management, human resources, contracting, executive support, financial oversight, security clearances, research capabilities, and operational continuity. Key directorates handle legally mandated programs like Freedom of Information Act processing and records management. No direct involvement in UAP/UFO research or related fields is documented in available sources; WHS focuses on enabling core DoD missions through backend support. It remains fully operational as an indispensable administrative arm of the DoD.
