William Francis Brinsley Le Poer Trench, 8th Earl of Clancarty (18 September 1911 – 18 May 1995), was an Irish peer and prominent British ufologist. Educated at Pangbourne Nautical College, he worked selling ads for a gardening magazine. From 1956-1959, he edited Flying Saucer Review and founded the International Unidentified Object Observer Corps. In 1967, he established Contact International, serving as its first president, and led BUFORA. A special member of the Ancient Astronauts Society, he authored books like The Sky People (1960), The Flying Saucer Story (1966), Mysterious Visitors (1973), and Secret of the Ages: UFOs from Inside the Earth (1974). Succeeding his half-brother in 1975, he gained a House of Lords seat, founded its UFO Study Group, stocked its library with Flying Saucer Review, and advocated for UFO data declassification. In 1979, he organized a historic UFO debate there.
