Frances Swan
Frances Swan was an American housewife from Eliot, Maine, active in UFO contactee circles during the 1950s. In April 1954, she began receiving messages via automatic writing from extraterrestrials, including Affa of Uranus aboard spaceship M-4 and Ponnar of L-11, warning against nuclear weapons. Instructed by Affa, she contacted her neighbor, retired US Navy Admiral Herbert B. Knowles, who facilitated investigations by Naval Intelligence officers. During sessions, Swan entered trances to answer technical questions beyond her education, and one officer reportedly summoned a UFO via automatic writing, as recounted by Project Blue Book head Lt. Col. Robert Friend in the 1974 film UFOs: Past, Present, and Future hosted by Rod Serling. The story gained prominence in UFO lore through ufologists like Stanton Friedman, Jacques Vallee, and Grant Cameron, who released related documents in 2003. Admiral Knowles later tried introducing her to Betty and Barney Hill, but she refused. No formal publications by Swan are known;
