Nicholas Soames
Nicholas Soames (born 1948), British Conservative politician and grandson of Winston Churchill, served as Minister for the Armed Forces from 1994 to 1997. In this role, he addressed parliamentary questions on UFO sightings, notably the 1990 Calvine incident. In 1996, Soames stated that negatives of the Calvine UAP photographs, examined by MoD air defence staff, contained 'nothing of defence significance' and were not retained. This response fueled debate among UFO researchers like Nick Pope and David Clarke, who suggested MoD awareness of the object's nature, possibly linked to U.S. technology amid internal disputes and U.S. denials of experimental aircraft tests over UK airspace. No known publications or personal testimony from Soames on UAP exist; his involvement was official ministerial duty.
