Peter E. Norris

Peter E. Norris LL.B (Melbourne) was an Australian lawyer and prominent UFO researcher who played a foundational role in organizing Australian ufology during the 1950s. He served as the first President of the Commonwealth Aerial Phenomena Investigation Organisation (CAPIO), established at a national conference in the mid-1950s under the patronage of Air Marshal Sir George Jones. Norris founded and led the Victorian Flying Saucer Research Society (VFSRS) from its establishment on 17 February 1957 at Melbourne University, which by 1978 had become the largest UFO organization in the Southern Hemisphere. He advocated for active government research input into UFO phenomena and established liaison opportunities with various government bodies. Norris resigned from VFSRS leadership in 1978, after which a new executive took control of the organization.
