Raymond A. Palmer (1910-1977), American editor and publisher born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was a pioneering figure in popularizing UFOs and paranormal topics. As editor of Amazing Stories from 1938, he launched the Shaver Mystery in 1944, serializing stories of malevolent 'Deros' in Earth's caverns, which drew over 50,000 reader responses and boosted circulation dramatically. Following Kenneth Arnold's 1947 sighting that coined 'flying saucers,' Palmer collaborated with him on the 1952 book The Coming of the Saucers. He founded magazines like Fate (1948), Flying Saucers, Other Worlds, and Search, providing early national UFO exposure and sustaining interest during lulls. Palmer reportedly shared UFO sightings with the CIA and published on occult and Hollow Earth theories until his death.
