Steven Aftergood
Steven Aftergood is an American secrecy expert and director of the Federation of American Scientists' Project on Government Secrecy. His birth and death years are not publicly documented. Aftergood has significantly advanced transparency in U.S. government UFO/UAP programs through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. In January 2019, he obtained and released a Defense Intelligence Agency list of 38 studies funded by the secretive Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), covering topics like wormholes, warp drives, invisibility cloaking, and extra dimensions. This disclosure illuminated the program's fringe science research managed by Robert Bigelow's firm. He has also analyzed NSA UFO-related records, noting their lack of extraterrestrial evidence but highlighting secrecy practices. Aftergood critiques such programs' value, as in his Popular Mechanics comment on AAWSAP. No personal UAP testimony or publications beyond FOIA releases are noted.
