James H. Doolittle
Lieutenant General James H. Doolittle (1896-1993)
American aviation pioneer and military leader. Commanded the famous 1942 Doolittle Raid on Tokyo. As commander of the U.S. 8th Air Force, he led one of the first official American investigations into foo fighter sightings during World War II, though no copy of the report has ever surfaced.
In August 1946, Doolittle traveled to Stockholm with David Sarnoff of RCA to investigate the Scandinavian ghost rocket phenomenon, ostensibly as private citizens representing Shell Oil and RCA. After consulting with Swedish authorities and learning that objects had been tracked on radar, the Swedish government clamped down on information β coinciding with their visit. Dolan considers it 'most likely' that Doolittle and Sarnoff were acting on behalf of the U.S. government.
