Louise Smith was an American woman who became known in UFO research following an alleged alien abduction incident on January 6, 1976, in Stanford, Kentucky. Along with her friends Mona Stafford and Elaine Thomas, Smith reported being abducted by a UFO while driving home from a restaurant celebration. The three women claimed they were taken aboard a spacecraft and examined by alien beings, experiencing missing time of approximately 80 minutes. Smith and her companions passed a polygraph test administered by a Lexington police detective and underwent hypnotic regression with psychologist Dr. Leo Sprinkle to detail their experience. The Stanford abduction case is considered by UFO researchers to be one of the most credible and well-documented abduction accounts, supported by independent UFO sightings reported by other witnesses in the area that same night.
