Roy Craig
Roy F. Craig (May 10, 1924 β March 18, 2004) was an American physical chemist and chief field investigator for the Colorado Project (Condon Committee), the U.S. Air Force-funded study of UFOs from 1966-1968 at the University of Colorado. Born on homesteaded land near Durango, Colorado, he earned a PhD in physical chemistry from Iowa State University in 1952 after WWII Army service and studies at Fort Lewis College. Selected by Edward Condon, Craig investigated hundreds of sightings, confirming most as hoaxes or misidentifications despite entering open-minded. He co-authored the 1969 Condon Report, concluding no scientific value in further UFO study, prompting Air Force closure. A skeptic of extraterrestrial claims, he viewed UFOs as key 20th-century social phenomenon sparking extraterrestrial interest. His 1995 book, UFOs: An Insider's View of the Official Quest for Evidence (UNT Press), details cases and project controversies. Craig donated papers to Texas A&M; featured in Who's Who in the World (2001).
