By the September 5, 2008 deadline, Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) remained the only bidder for the AAWSAP contract and was subsequently awarded the agreement. The subsidiary of Bigelow Aerospace reportedly managed a $22 million program to produce thirty-eight Defense Intelligence Reference Documents investigating advanced aerospace technologies. This sole-source contract became the foundation of what would later be publicly revealed as the AATIP program in 2017.
