On December 21, 2017, NASA's Daily Comms Brief included coverage of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP). The internal communication referenced a Space.com article published the previous day featuring Luis Elizondo, the former Pentagon official who led the program. The article also mentioned To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science, the organization Elizondo joined after leaving government service.
This internal NASA document came to light through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted by The Black Vault in May 2018. After the request was redirected from the Executive Office of the President to NASA, the agency responded in November 2019 by releasing the 9-page brief.
