Background

On May 22, 2020, The Black Vault filed a FOIA request with the Department of Defense following public statements by DoD spokesperson Susan Gough confirming the existence of a multi-agency task force investigating UAP sightings. The request specifically sought all reports, cases, memoranda, letters, photographs, and videos submitted to what was then believed to be the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence (USD(I)) task force. At the time of filing, the involvement of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in running the UAP Task Force was not yet publicly known. The request aimed to obtain the complete archive of military UAP investigations that formed the basis of the task force's work.
