DNI Releases Preliminary Assessment Identifying 144 UAP Incidents
On June 25, 2021, the DNI released the Preliminary Assessment on UAP, identifying 144 military incidents and acknowledging that UAP represent something tangible.
Background
On June 25, 2021, the Director of National Intelligence released the "Preliminary Assessment: Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" report. Key findings: 144 military UAP incidents from 2004 through June 2021; UAP were likely not weather anomalies and represented something tangible; Air Force information was not yet available; only about 10 percent of all encounters were actually reported.
Congress subsequently required annual UAP reports, establishing a permanent reporting cadence. The report was a direct result of the legislation that Chris Mellon helped draft and Senator Rubio sponsored.
Significance
First official US government acknowledgment that UAP are real, tangible objects, representing a historic shift in the official narrative.
