The J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) is a privately funded, civilian UFO research organization founded in 1973 by J. Allen Hynek, a former astronomical consultant to the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book (1948-1969). Based in the United States, CUFOS serves as an international group of scientists, academics, investigators, and volunteers dedicated to examining and analyzing the UFO phenomenon through scientific inquiry. Key activities include conducting original research, investigating UFO reports, and maintaining extensive archives of UFO-related documents and publications. The organization has received approximately 70,000 reports from over 140 countries. Mark Rodeghier has served as scientific director since Hynek's death in 1986. CUFOS remains the longest continuously operating private UFO research organization and continues to promote serious scientific interest in UFOs.
