Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review
The Defense Office of Prepublication and Security Review (DOPSR) is a U.S. government department under the Pentagon's Washington Headquarters Services, founded in 1949 as the Security Review Branch within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. It reviews written materials, including books, articles, and official documents from current/former DoD, military, and Intelligence Community members, to prevent disclosure of classified or security-sensitive information damaging to national security. This lifelong obligation stems from non-disclosure agreements, upheld in Snepp v. United States (1980). DOPSR coordinates with agencies like DIA and NSA for comprehensive reviews. In UAP/UFO contexts, it has scrutinized publications on government programs like AATIP or whistleblower accounts to protect sensitive data. Currently active, it manages high submission volumes, with delays for book manuscripts.
