Headquarters United States Air Force
Headquarters United States Air Force (HQ USAF), founded in 1947, is the U.S. government's primary military headquarters for the Air Force, based in the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. It oversaw key UFO/UAP investigations, including Project Sign (1947-1949), Project Grudge (1949-1952), and Project Blue Book (1952-1969), headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. These programs analyzed 12,618 sightings, with 701 unexplained, aiming to assess national security threats and scientific value. No evidence of extraterrestrial origins or security risks was found. Notable reports include the 1947 Roswell Incident, debunked as a balloon project with anthropomorphic dummies. Project Blue Book ended in 1969; UFO duties shifted to civilians. Records archived at National Archives (RG 341). Currently, HQ USAF supports but does not lead UAP efforts, succeeded by AARO (2022).
