Barry Goldwater
Barry Goldwater (1909-1998) was an American politician, U.S. Senator from Arizona, and Air Force Reserve major general. A prominent conservative figure and 1964 presidential candidate, he expressed longstanding interest in UFOs. In the 1960s, he sought access to a restricted building at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, believed to house UFO-related materials, but was denied by General Curtis LeMay, who angrily rebuked him. In a 1975 letter, Goldwater stated the subject had intrigued him for years and suspected government knowledge of UFOs, though he could not confirm it. He confirmed inquiring about Hangar 18 rumors but found no evidence of alien bodies. His testimony fueled public speculation on military UFO secrecy without direct involvement in programs.
