Edward Uhler Condon (1902-1974) was an American physicist renowned for contributions to quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, and spectroscopy. He served as Director of the National Bureau of Standards and consulted on the Manhattan Project. In UAP/UFO research, Condon authored a skeptical 1949 memo to the US Air Force, arguing no evidence supported UFO existence, influencing Project Blue Book. From 1966-1968, he directed the University of Colorado UFO Project, known as the Condon Committee, funded by the Air Force. The resulting 1968 Condon Report, 'Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects,' analyzed 59 cases across five categories and concluded no scientific value in further UFO studies, recommending discontinuation. This led to Project Blue Book's closure in 1969. Despite controversy over alleged bias, Condon's work marked a pivotal skeptical assessment in government UFO programs.
