Frances Smyth
Frances Swan (died 1993) was an American housewife from Maine known for her claimed contact with extraterrestrials via automatic writing in 1954. She allegedly received messages instructing her to contact the U.S. Navy, leading her neighbor, retired Rear Admiral H. Knowles, to arrange interviews with two Naval Intelligence officers. During these sessions, Swan entered a trance and provided detailed scientific and technical answers beyond her education level, purportedly channeled from aliens. One officer reportedly received direct telepathic communication. The incident was recounted by Lt. Col. Robert Friend, former head of Project Blue Book, in the 1974 film 'UFOs: Past, Present, and Future.' Ufologist Grant Cameron released related documents in 2003, and Stanton Friedman noted in 2007 that Knowles tried to connect her with Betty and Barney Hill, but she refused. No formal publications or official Navy reports are confirmed; her story remains a notable UFO contactee legend without verified military program ties.
