Jose Carlos Pereira
Jose Carlos Pereira is a Brazilian four-star Brigadier General who stands as the highest-ranking Brazilian official ever to speak publicly about UFOs. From 1999 to 2001 he commanded the Brazilian Airspace Defense Command (COMDABRA) and subsequently served as General Commander of Air Force Operations until 2005, supervising 13 generals and 27,000 personnel. Earlier in his career he commanded several air bases and the Brazilian Air Force Academy.
- Four-star Brigadier General of the Brazilian Air Force
- Commander of the Airspace Defense Command (COMDABRA) from 1999 to 2001
- General Commander of Air Force Operations until 2005, supervising 13 generals and 27,000 personnel
- Earlier commander of several air bases and of the Brazilian Air Force Academy
- Confirmed two to three intercept missions per year against unknown radar targets during his command
- Contributed a first-person chapter to Leslie Kean's book on Brazil's 1986 "Official UFO Night"
- Documented Brazilian military UFO investigation procedures
For the UAP timeline, Pereira is the rare case of an active top air-force commander who, instead of denying UFO encounters, officially confirmed them and even cited concrete case numbers. His contribution to Leslie Kean lifts the Brazilian 1986 "UFO Night" case into the international canon and shows how far beyond the United States state UFO investigation had already been institutionalised.
