Weir Clem
Weir Clem was the Sheriff of Levelland, Texas, who became notable in UFO research history as a witness to the Levelland UFO case of November 2-3, 1957. On the night of November 3, 1957, at approximately 1:30 AM, Clem observed a brilliant red object moving across the sky near Levelland. His sighting was part of a series of 15 UFO-related reports received by the Levelland police department that night, during which multiple witnesses reported seeing an egg-shaped object that allegedly caused vehicle malfunctions. Clem's official account indicated he saw the object at a distance of approximately 900 feet, though later accounts from his daughter suggested he had gotten closer to the phenomenon than initially reported. Following his sighting, Clem was reportedly visited by Air Force personnel who advised him to cease discussing the incident. His testimony was documented in Project Blue Book files and newspaper accounts, contributing to one of the most well-documented UFO cases of the 1950s, though the U.S. Air Force ultimately attributed the sightings to ball lightning or St. Elmo's fire.
