On July 21, 2021, The Black Vault released documents obtained via FOIA case 21-HQ-F-00507, which requested emails sent to or from NASA Science Associate Administrator Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen containing keywords related to unidentified aerial phenomena.
The released records included a September 13, 2020 email from Mike Gold detailing the UAP Task Force's request to brief NASA officials. This disclosure revealed previously unknown coordination between the military task force and the civilian space agency regarding UFO investigations.
The publication followed a June 2021 press conference where NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and Associate Administrator Thomas Zurbuchen publicly discussed unidentified aerial phenomena, prompting the FOIA request that uncovered these communications.
