DoD Establishes All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO)
In July 2022, AARO was established as the permanent UAP office, replacing the AOIMSG and expanding from "aerial" to "anomalous" to cover all domains.
Background
In July 2022, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) was announced as the new permanent UAP office, replacing the short-lived AOIMSG. Unlike its predecessor, AARO had to report directly to Congress.
The name change from "aerial" to "anomalous" reflected Congress's expanded definition to include space and undersea anomalies โ acknowledging transmedium capabilities that had been documented since the Nimitz encounter.
Significance
Established the first permanent all-domain anomaly investigation office, with Congressional reporting requirements and expanded scope.
