National Academy of Sciences
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS), founded in 1863 in the United States, is an independent, nonprofit academic society chartered by Congress to advise the federal government on scientific matters. As a civilian academic organization, it has engaged in UAP/UFO-related activities, notably reviewing the 1968 Condon Report—a University of Colorado study on UFOs commissioned by the U.S. Air Force. A special NAS committee, comprising 37 scientists, endorsed the report's conclusion that no evidence supported extraordinary phenomena beyond commonplace explanations, recommending no further investigation. This influenced the Air Force's termination of Project Blue Book. NAS has not led dedicated UAP programs but contributes to scientific discourse. Currently active, it remains a premier advisory body, though uninvolved in recent NASA or AARO UAP efforts.
